Manchester United are apparently desperate to sign a new striker in January and are prepared to submit a £50m bid for striker Everton Romeu Lukaku in January, according to reports by Italian publication Tutomercatoweb.
Lukaku has had a great run in the English Premier League this season and has scored 12 goals in 15 appearances so far this season. The 22-year-old Belgian international is also the league's second-highest scorer this season, two behind Leicester City's Jamie Vardy.
The former Chelsea striker signed for Everton in July 2014 for a record transfer fee of £28m after impressing at Goodison Park on a season-long loan. Everton have already shown this summer that they are unwilling to part with any of their key players and have managed to keep Chelsea at bay in their repeated attempts to sign defender John Stones.
There are also constant rumors suggesting a big bet on Barcelona striker Neymar in the new year and a possible move for Tottenham's Harry Kane; but those goals seem distant at the moment.
On the other hand, the United coach is the target of severe scrutiny by a large part of fans, as well as media experts, for his boring style of play. Among the bright spots, the Red Devils are the best defensive team in the league so far and could still do well with the welcome addition of a bona fide number nine in January.

Meanwhile, reports also suggest that United scouts are keeping an eye on Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans. The 18-year-old, who made his Champions League debut aged 16, has twice been named Belgium's young player of the year. According to the Mirror's report, Manchester United are considering a £30m bid but have to deal with interests from Chelsea, Manchester City, Everton and Aston Villa.
