Top 10 FC Barcelona kits of all time (ranked)

FC Barcelona is the biggest club in Catalonia, as well as one of the most successful in the Spanish La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.

Its history is well documented, being home to some of the greatest players to ever grace the game, such as Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho and Iniesta.

Alongside these special players, there have always been iconic kits to accompany them and today we're taking a look at the top 10 Barcelona kits of all time. There really are so many great kits, so let's jump in and see which one was the best.

10. Away Kit 2018/19

The first kit on our list hails from relatively turbulent times at the club, but that doesn't take away from the fact that this Nike jersey is one of the most stylish designs of recent seasons.

The kit is a fabulous shade of luminous yellow. and has black markings on the sleeve that give the shirt a nice break in the yellow block, this color choice continues throughout the kit and is present in both the shorts and socks.

Block patterns aren't everyone's favourite, but this kit worked especially well in night games when the spotlight shines on the players wearing the kit.

It has been used in some UEFA Champions League matches, although the teams' campaign ended in heartbreak this year following a 4-0 loss to Liverpool.

Domestically, there was more success, however, with the club winning the La Liga title ahead of rivals Real Madrid.

9. Uniform 1977/78

The next kit to appear on this list hails from a much earlier period in the teams history and was worn by one of their greatest legends, the great Dutch hero Johan Cruyff.

The Dutchman was an influential part of Barcelona's history, with him creating new ways to play and building on his legend that had already been created while he was at Ajax.

The kit itself is one of the simplest the club has ever owned, and that's what makes it so famous, more reminiscent of a Real Madrid kit than a Barcelona kit, it's all white with blue shorts and socks.

While it might seem like a subtlety to Madrid's rivals, it's unlikely that the designers thought of this color clash.

However, it was not an iconic season for the club, who were six points short of the La Liga title. The club won the Copa del Rey and qualified for the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

8. Home Kit 2008/09

Speaking of iconic seasons and legends, the 2008-09 season ranks as one of the best in Barcelona's history, largely due to their fantastic UEFA Champions League win against a Manchester United-managed Sir Alex Ferguson (the holders of the trophy at the time) in Pomegranate.

The kit is one of the most recognizable on this list and features a block of two colors that come together in the center of the shirt, these colors are of course the famous red and blue of the Catalan giants.

It's another relatively simple Nike design that wasn't very popular when it first released, but an iconic season can change opinions.

This era of club history is epitomized by a long-haired Lionel Messi and a Xavi and Iniesta in midfield. The team would achieve the famous treble under their new coach, Pep Guardiola.

7. Home Kit 1998/99

Known as the centenary kit (as it was released in the 100th season of the club's existence), this famous Nike shirt is quite similar to the previous kit we mentioned, as it features the same block pattern with the two colors meeting in the middle of the shirt. .

This kit has a distinct difference from its 2008 counterpart though, it features a collar at the top of the shirt, and this is something I really like to see on the team's shirts.

Having a collar just gives the shirt another element that makes it stand out and looks really classy when worn by legends of the game.

On the field, it wasn't a particularly incredible season for the club, but they won the La Liga title with Brazilian star player Rivaldo as the team's top scorer (29 in all competitions). In Europe, the club was eliminated in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

6. Home Kit 2022/23

Nike's latest effort is a kit that has truly divided opinion around the world and I am firmly in the field of this kit being one of the best that Barcelona have ever had the pleasure of using on the football field.

The shirt has a striped design, with all the colors of the team printed. This pattern is cut across the top of the jersey by a navy blue block that outlines the player's shoulders.

As for the sponsor, that's really what fans are debating. The gold logo of musical giants Spotify is now emblazoned on the front of the shirt and has become a controversial choice during a period of turmoil for the club.

The biggest stars are gone, and it looks like we may be experiencing a period of great decline for the Catalan team.

5. Uniform 1978/79

As we've mentioned several times before, Barcelona is found in the Catalonia region of Spain. This region is fiercely opposed to Spanish rule and has long tried to gain independence from Madrid's dominance (in part where the rivalry between the cities' biggest teams stems from).

That independence was reflected in the 1978/79 away kit, thanks to its colorway reminiscent of the flag of Catalonia.

The yellow shirt featured a blue and red stripe which was reminiscent of the fact that Barcelona were in fact from Catalonia and not Spain, this has been a feature of many of the club's change stripes for many years.

On the pitch, the club did not have a great national season, managing only third place in La Liga. However, they did win the Cup Winners' Cup, making this team and outfit well remembered.

4. Third Set 2024/22

This kit is another one that some loved and some hated, personally I find it stylish and simple with a finish that sets it apart from the crows.

The kit is a shade of light purple all around and features a chrome version of the club's logo, making it clearly distinct from anything that has come before it.

The shirt also features the iconic UNICEF sponsor on the back, as well as the stylish Rakuten sponsor on the front of the kit, which has now been removed.

It would be a season to forget for the club, as the first year without Lionel Messi's goals left them without a talisman that Memphis Depay could not be.

They finished second in La Liga and were knocked out of all other competitions before the final.

3. Home Kit 2004/05

One of the most iconic footballers of all time is renowned for wearing this famous shirt, with Brazilian megastar Ronaldinho truly becoming the legend we know today as he won his second FIFA World Player of the Year award.

This season has also seen Samuel Eto'o perform well alongside the emergence of a young Argentinian named Lionel Messi.

The kit itself is once again iconic for its simplicity, with no sponsors up front. Only the club logo and Nike swoosh are featured in this striped effort from the American brand.

Despite the shirt's iconic nature, it wasn't a phenomenal season for the club. They won La Liga under the guidance of Frank Rijkaard.

2. 2004/05 Away Kit

With so many legends in one team, it was only fitting that they would also go out with an iconic away kit. This is again a Nike sponsorless shirt that is a blue and black color scheme.

Ronaldinho has delivered some of the best performances of his stellar career with this shirt draped over his shoulders and is often seen pictured in it when discussions of his ability arise.

1. Home Kit 2014/15

Here we are, the best Barcelona kit of all time is the Nike 2014/15 home kit. This shirt has come to symbolize Barcelona for me, being the closest I could imagine to a shirt from the Catalan giants.

It features the non-trivial but stylish Qatar Airways sponsor and a simple striped design of the club's blue and red. The club logo is also prominent near where the heart would be, and this is the best place to be when iconic shirts are being discussed.

Perhaps most famous of all though, this was the kit that was used when Sergi Roberto completed a legendary comeback at the Camp Nou, scoring the final goal in a 6-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain.

This famous night is now known as 'La Remontada' and is possibly the greatest comeback in football history as Barcelona trailed 4-0 after the first leg in Paris.

There you have it, the top 10 Barcelona kits of all time! Do you agree with our list or would you have put some other great kits on it?
