Meet Abraham Marcus: the latest Super Eagles call-up










Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has announced the names of the 31-player squad that will face Cameroon in an international friendly in Vienna on June 4. What caught the attention of Nigerians was the inclusion of the name of Abraham Marcus, from Feirense, a Portuguese second division club.

He was born Abraham Ayomide Marcus on June 2, 2000 in Lagos State, Nigeria.

He joined Feirense's youth academy in 2018 from Remo Stars Football Academy in Ogun State, Nigeria.

After impressing at youth level, he was promoted to Feirense's senior team last summer and signed his first professional contract – the contract runs until 2023.

Marcus quickly established himself in the starting line-up, contributing 11 goals and 2 assists in 25 games in the Portuguese 2nd Division this season, immediately becoming by far the team's best player.

His goals make him the fourth top scorer in the championship and put his Feirense team in contention for promotion to the Portuguese first division.

Abraham Marcus wears Feirense's number 99 shirt. He is a fast, very direct and skillful winger. He has an eye for goal and can also create chances.

Due to his excellent performance at the club, he was called up for the first time to the Nigerian Super Eagles squad by coach Gernot Rohr on 14 May 2024. The German does not have many options on the left wing of the Super Eagles' attacking line, so that Abraham Marcus is a sensible inclusion.
