There have been eight different Australian Open winners over the past decade and the changing of the guard in recent times suggests there could be another newly crowned hero in Melbourne this year.
Only seven-time winners Serena Williams and Viktoria Azarenka have won two Australian Open titles twice in the last ten years, and without a dominant force in women's football, it's no surprise to see sportsbooks ready to go. 7/1 for the field.
Australian Open Women betting odds
Serena, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, is 8/1 for more major success, but the American, now 39, is not the force of her past and has not held a top-tier title since 2017.
Japanese star Naomi Osaka has won three of the last eight Majors (she triumphed here in 2019) and leads the betting at 7/1, while American Sofia Kenin is 10/1 to successfully defend her crown.
Australian Open Women's Best Bets
Aryna Sabalenka to win – BET NOW
Women's football has never been so competitive. Serena Williams' dominance is over and each of the last six Grand Slam titles has been won by someone different.
And the trend could continue in Melbourne, where Aryna Sabelenka looks set to make her mark at a Major.
The Belarusian is a WTA Tour series winner and despite being only 22 years old, she already has eight career titles under her belt.
Sabalenka ended 2024 on top with back-to-back titles in Ostrava and Linz and picked up where she left off this year, reaching the final in Abu Dhabi thanks to a string of high-profile locks.
The world number ten has lost just one set in her five matches, beating the likes of Ons Jabeur, Elena Rybakina and Maria Sakkari, and at least you know she's fit and really looking forward to playing in the first Grand Slam of the season.
Australian Open Prediction
Sabalenka has yet to make an impact at a Grand Slam, not yet past the fourth round, but he has the weapons to beat anyone in his era and we know he returned to action at the height of the game.
A Grand Slam title is certainly not too far off for the Belarusian, and what she means is that she can't claim her first time in Melbourne.
Australian Open Women's Long Shot
Victoria Azarenka – BET NOW
Another Belarusian with strong claims to Australia is former world number one Victoria Azarenka, who secured her only two previous Grand Slam titles in Melbourne.
Azarenka won here in back-to-back years in 2012 and 2013 and although she bounced back from the boil for a few seasons as she struggled with injuries and gave birth to her first child, she recalled her peak in the final stages of 2024.
Azarenka reached last year's US Open final, a first Grand Slam decider since her 2013 loss to Williams at Flushing Meadows, and her aggressive, hard-hitting style is hard to contain when she's firing full throttle.
The current world number 13 reached three finals on the WTA Tour last season, suggesting there's plenty of life left in the 31-year-old. His experience can be a key component.
Jennifer Brady to win – BET NOW
At higher prices, American Jennifer Brady may have her say as she seeks her first Grand Slam win.
Brady showed his talent by reaching the semifinals of last season's US Open and there should be plenty more to come from the 25-year-old, who has climbed to No. 24 in the world rankings.
The Pennsylvania native captured her first WTA Tour title at the Kentucky Top Seed Open last August and reached the fourth round here in 2017.
There should be a lot more to come from the agile American and she has shown she has the game to mix with the elite.
Australian Open Women's Tips
1. Aryna Sabalenka will win @ 01/12
2. Victoria Azarenka will win @ 20/1
3. Jennifer Brady wins 1/25
